History Underground: The Air Raid Shelter of the Franz Xaver Stahl Museum
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, a special access point to the city history of Erding will open at the Franz Xaver Stahl Museum. At 2 PM, history mediator Tamara Hackenberg will guide visitors through the air raid shelter from the 1940s located at Landshuter Straße 31.
An Authentic Testament of War Time
The tour makes private air raid protection during the Second World War directly experienceable. In the authentically preserved rooms, it becomes evident how the protective facilities were designed and what significance they held for people during the last years of the war. This nearly unique and very well-preserved facility is among the rare surviving examples of its kind in Germany.
Local History Impressed Upon
Another focus is on the bombing raid on Erding on April 18, 1945. The historical backgrounds connect with the specific location, creating an intense discovery experience between architecture, memory culture, and local heritage.
Experience Museum, Artists' House, and Garden
On the same day, the Franz Xaver Stahl Museum as well as the Artists' House will be open free of charge. In nice weather, the artists' garden invites visitors to linger with coffee and refreshments. Thus, the city tour through the air raid shelter can be combined with a cultural visit to the art area on Landshuter Straße.
Conclusion: Touching Erdings Past
The tour offers a knowledgeable perspective on an extraordinary historical building and a moving chapter of Erding's city history. Anyone wishing to discover cultural heritage, contemporary history, and authentic places will experience history not from a distance but directly on site.
